Penn State Golf Courses Named Among Top 50 Public Facilities

The Penn State Golf Courses have again been named among the top 50 public facilities in the United States by the Golf Range Association of America.

GRAA — which publishes leading trade publications PGA Magazine, The Met Golfer and PGAmagazine.com — unveiled the list of 2020 award winners earlier in January. Penn State Golf Courses has been named among the top 50 public facilities dating back to at least 2012.

“These public facilities introduced the game of golf to a variety of new golfers, while retaining and inspiring current golfers,” according to the GRAA website. “Through player development programming, customer engagement and community outreach, our 2020 award winners should be proud of their efforts in growing the game.”

Joe Hughes, general manager of the Penn State Golf Courses, said in a statement that he is proud of the award and of the measures his staff has undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our team has worked really hard all year to create an environment to where our community feel comfortable and continue to utilize our golf courses and practice facilities,” Hughes said. “Our numbers have held over this past year and it is a reflection of the time and dedication our staff have taken to create a welcoming environment during these difficult times.”

Joining the Penn State Golf Courses on the list, which is not ranked in any order, are facilities such as TPC Sawgrass, Chambers Bay, Osprey Point Golf Course and The Greenbrier. See the full list at golfrange.org/announcing-2020-graa-top-50-public-facilities.

The Penn State Golf Courses feature two 18-hole courses along with an award-winning driving range including four practice putting greens, a bunker area and 32 artificial driving range stalls.
