Scraps & Skeins, a social enterprise of Strawberry Fields Inc., will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a Fiber Arts Showcase from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 at Toftrees Golf Resort.

The free public event will feature more than 100 creative works that incorporate materials originally purchased at Scraps & Skeins and underscore the belief that reuse is beautiful.

Founded in 2015, Scraps & Skeins has grown into a beloved reuse shop and inclusive employer. The program diverts yarn, fabric and sewing notions from landfills—saving more than 92 tons of material to date—while promoting environmental sustainability through creative reuse.

The Fiber Arts Showcase will include entries from seasoned fiber artists, local life skills classrooms and community hobbyists. Guests can explore vibrant displays, meet participating artists and learn more about Scraps & Skeins’ mission and work.

Mary Lemmons, Vicky Sanderson and Susan Magargee will judge entries. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: Quilting/Sewing, Knitting/Crocheting/Weaving and Needlework.

While providing a valued spot for fabric crafting enthusiasts, Scraps & Skeins is a workplace with purpose. The shop — located at 3042 Enterprise Drive in State College, directly behind Strawberry Fields — provides individualized job coaching and meaningful employment for individuals with disabilities, creating opportunities to grow, belong and contribute.

Employment rates for people with disabilities are among their highest on record, thanks in part to social enterprises like Scraps & Skeins. However, people without disabilities remain nearly twice as likely to be employed (75% vs. 38%), underscoring the importance of inclusive employment initiatives.

“This showcase represents 10 years of community building through creativity and purpose,” said Ellen Campbell, one of the founding mothers of Scraps & Skeins. “It is a powerful reminder that reuse is truly beautiful.”
