The Centre Area Transportation Authority will launch two new trial routes this summer to enhance access to popular destinations in the Centre Region during a period when fixed-route bus service is otherwise reduced.
Both trial routes will operate from May 12 to Aug. 17, when CATA is on its reduced summer service schedule, according to a news release.
The University Parkway, or UP, route will a counterclockwise circulator service Monday to Saturday at a frequency of every 32 minutes. Its stops will include downtown State College, Westerly Parkway Plaza, The Retreat on Waupelani Drive, the Social Security Office on University Drive, Easterly Parkway Elementary School and the Penn State campus.
Designed to complement the existing NV route, the Happy Valley, or HV, route will operate all day on Sundays and from 10 p.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday. Late nights Monday through Saturday, it will service six stops by traveling south on Atherton Street and Burrowes Road from Blue Course Drive. On Sundays it will also provide service directly from Walmart, Trader Joe’s and Colonnade Boulevard to Martin Street and The Heights.
