Centre County communities will remember the lives lost in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 with memorial events on Thursday.

A memorial service hosted by the Penn State College Republicans will be held at 5 p.m. on Old Main Lawn.

In an annual tradition, the group also organized the placement of 2,977 American flags — one for each victim of the attacks — on the lawn earlier this week. The flags will remain until 4 p.m. on Friday.

In Bellefonte, Logan Fire Company will host a service at 6:30 p.m. at its station, 120 E. Howard St., to “honor the lives lost and the heroes of September 11, 2001.”

Those planning to attend are asked to park downtown and walk to the station to allow space for additional fire apparatus.

“Let us come together as a community in remembrance and reflection,” the fire company wrote on the Facebook event for the service.
