A new restaurant will carry on the diner tradition of a downtown State College location.

Bubba’s Eggs, Steaks and Shakes plans to open at 131 S. Garner St., co-owner Briana Stroh wrote Wednesday in a post on the Foodies of State College Facebook group. The property is a 1947 Silk City Diner that was most recently home to Oeuf Boeuf et Bacon and for more than 30 years prior to that was Baby’s Burgers and Shakes.

The new diner will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and, as the name indicates, shakes, Stroh wrote.

Bubba’s owners did not respond to a request for comment on Wednesday. Downtown State College Improvement District retail and commercial business advocated Kendra Kielbasa reported to the State College Redevelopment Authority on Aug. 27 that a diner serving breakfast, lunch and dinner would be opening in the Garner Street location, and told StateCollege.com in a follow-up interview at the time that she was not able to share further information.

Stroh was a co-owner of Daily Grind Coffee Co. in Altoona, which opened in the fall of 2022 and announced its closure on Tuesday in a Facebook post.

“We would like to start off by saying thank you for the overwhelming support the past few years…,” the post stated. “As our journey at the daily grind has come to an end, it’s time to spread our wings and move forward. We’ve met so many great people along the way and we can’t thank you enough. We hope to see some familiar faces in the near future!”

The classic manufactured diner at 131 S. Garner St. first arrived in State College in the 1960s and was home to several businesses before Baby’s Burgers & Shakes opened as a 1950s throwback in 1987. After Baby’s closed in 2020, Oeuf Boeuf et Bacon, which served American diner favorites with a French twist, opened in 2022 and closed in early July.
